After reading all these introductions it seems that this is a far too
important group to just lurk. So in order to join in the fray:
My name is Laura Brown and I am the Conservation Lab Supervisor at
the University of Rochester's Rush Rhees Library. I am also a MFA
candidate in Imaging Arts at Rochester Institute of Technology and my
thesis (in the form of an exhibition) is based on the idea of the book
as a medium. This brings me to some questions for this group to bounce
#1 What is the definition of "book", "artist's book", "fine binding",
and /or "book binding".
#2 What are the aspects of an object that make it described as a "book".
It will be interesting, I think, to see how peoples definitions affect future
disscusions. There are no definative answers here, I'm really looking
for opinions and philosophies.
Well, that should do it for now.
P.S. There now Peter, are you satisfied? :-)
