C. R. Ashbee exhibition and lecture



The Craftsman Farms Foundation in Parsippany, New Jersey, is having an
exhibition on "C. R. Ashbee: An English View of the Craftsman Ideal" that
will run through October 30th.  About half of the 90 items on display are
specimens of fine printing and binding.  On Sunday, October 9, at 2:00 P.M.
there will be a slide lecture by David Lowden, curator of the exhibition,
on the "Essex House Press and the Book Beautiful in England and America, 1890-
1920."  There will also be two later lectures, one on jewelry and metalwork
and one on Ashbee in America.  A catalog of the exhibition is available for
$10.00 plus $1.00 shipping and handling.  The mailing address is 2352 Route
10-West, Box 5, Morris Plains, NJ 07950.  Craftsman Farms, the former home
of Gustav Stickley, is located at 2352 Route 10-West (at Manor Lane, Powder
Mill Estates), about three miles west of I-287, in Parsippany-Troy Hills,
New Jersey.  Turn into the Powder Mill Estates entrance.  Exhibition hours
are Thursdays 12-3 and Saturdays and Sundays 1-4.  The lectures are free with
