Bookbinding and Book Arts Symposium

The following message was received from Barbara Kretzmann who teaches
bookbinding at Wells College.


          A Bookbinding and Book Arts Symposium will be held at
Wells College May 11-13, 1995. Speakers include Terry Belanger on "The Future 
of the Book (If Any)," Sidney Berger on historic book arts programs, Michelle 
Cloonan on "Women Bookbinders in the Second Cities," Betsy Palmer Eldridge on 
German binding traditions, Don Etherington on Otto Zahn, Monique Lallier on 
French bookbinding techniques, Joseph Newman on Mary Crease Sears, and W. 
Thomas Taylor on the relationship between fine printers and fine binders. Jane
Webster Pearce's private collection of designer bindings and artists' books 
will be on exhibit. Both book arts suppliers and book dealers will be on hand,
as well as optional tours to the Kroch Special Collections Library at Cornell 
U. or to the Bixlers Press & Letterfoundry in Skaneateles. A reception will 
open the event 6:30 p.m. Thursday May 11th. Deborah Evetts will present a 
slide lecture following the banquet on Friday evening. Advance registration 
fee of $175 (after April 1st $200.) covers the exhibition, reception buffet 
and wine tasting, Thursday, all lectures, the banquet Friday evening, 
breakfast and lunch both Friday and Saturday, and keepsake. Please contact:
