Beginning Letterpress Class

Participants will investigate the fundamentals of 
typesetting and presswork in this course 
designed for those without prior printing 
experience. Students will explore the California 
job case, composition, lock-up, inking, and 
maintenance, as well as learn to print from 
photoengravings, wood and linoleum blocks. 
Each student will work on a project with the 
instructor's guidance.

CAROL STURM is co-proprietor of Nadja Press, which produces 
finely printed limited edition works of literature, often accompanied 
with original illustrations by contemporary artists. Nadja Press books 
are in numerous private and institutional collections. She has taught 
at the Center for Book Arts since 1980 and is involved in all aspects 
of letterpress printing and bookmaking.
