book arts symposium



A Symposium on bookbinding and book arts will be held at Wells College,
Aurora NY, May 11-13, 1995.  Speakers include Terry Belanger on "The Future
of the Book (If Any)", Sidney Berger on historic book arts programs,
Michelle Cloonan on "Women Bookbinders in the Second Cities", Betsy Palmer
Eldridge on German binding traditions, Don Etherington on Otto Zahn,
Monique Lallier on French bookbinding techniques, Joseph Newman on Mary
Crease Sears, and W. Thomas Taylor on the relationshiop between fine
printers and fine binders. Jane Webster Pearce's private collection of
designer bindings and artists' books will be on exhibit.  Book arts
suppliers and book dealers will be on hand.  There will be optional tours
to the Kroch Special Collections Library at Cornell University or to the
Bixlers' Press and Letterfoundry in Skaneateles.  A reception will open the
event at 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 11.  Deborah Evetts will present a slide
lecture following the banquet on Friday evening.  The registration fee of
$175 (after April 15, $200) includes the exhibition, dinner buffet and
wine-tasting, all lectures, breakfast, lunch, and the banquet Friday; all
lectures, breakfast, and lunch on Saturday, and a keepsake.  Please contact
