I've had a lot of success with automotive lacquer. It's made to withstand
the elements and direct sunlight. You can wrap the boars with your print,
or mount it to the board. On one lacquered book with mounted print I simply
gessoed and gilded the edge of the board and the square (the inside of the
board up to the endpaper.
