I wouldn't recommend it. I have one and the surface, though smooth and
seemingly hard, has a tendency to start to crumble once it is scratched or
chipped. I would recommend a piece of 1/4 - 1/2" plate glass which can have
the edges ground so as to me non-lethal. Costwise, it might even be cheaper.

Please pass my regards on to Eleanor as well, and ask her if she would like
to bind the Thomases' Paper book. I'd love to have her do a binding for the
upcoming Guild of Book Workers exhibition. The same thought goes for any
other Guild members as well.
