I also have rebound paperback books for greater strength and utility. I have
generally used a durable endsheet than the oriental handmade you are
intending to use. One option might be the use of either a library-style
endsheet with a cloth joint that is hidden behind the "decorative" paper or
individual sheets applied over an exposed bookcloth hinge. Both of these
options take a little longer to construct, but would give a very durable
hinge joint for your projects. If you have access to it, Laurence Town's
instructional book, Bookbinding by Hand (Faber & Faber Publishers), would be
a good reference.
