The Frederic W. Goudy Lecture on the Book Arts will be given on
October 5, 1996 in the Humanities Auditorium at Scripps College at
7:30 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by the Scripps College Press and
is free and open to the public.
Cal Ling will give a lecture entitled "Paper World Views: Influences
in the 1990s" on the art of hand papermaking and how this time-proven
medium has brought us to the 21st century, and how it continues to
carry artists and creative thinkers towards ancient and alternative
technologies. Cal Ling has been stretching the boundaries and
perceptions of paper art for the last 20 years.

The Frederic W. Goudy Workshop will be given October 4-6, 1996, from
9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily at the Scripps College Press.
Cal Ling will give a three-day intensive workshop entitled "Hand
Papermaking: Rags to Riches" in handmade papermaking techniques
utilizing pulling, pouring, floating, laminating, and pulp painting
in paper formation. Also included is a slide show and videos
depicting traditional Japanese papermaking as well as contemporary
artists. Explore the possiblities of cotton, linen, silk or
vegetable fiber paper as fine print sheets or 3-D sculptures.
Workshop deadline is September 23. Cost for the three-day workshop
is $225. Reservations required.

"Paper Bound" is an exhibit featuring Peter and Donna Thomas' book,
Paper, bound in different ways by members of the Guild of Book
Workers. It runs from September 3 to October 18, 1996 in the Clark
Humanities Museum at Scripps College. The Museum is open M-F from
8:00 a.m.-12 noon and from 1-5 p.m.
