The easiest way to transfer word processor files which retain their
"markup" is to save the file in RTF format and then ship it out in the
body of your message.  RTF files are  ascii files, and as a number of people
have observed, this is a sure bet when sending data through networks
that are use 7 bits in some places and 8 in others.  Just about any
modern word processor found in Mac, PC, and Unix environments can read
RTF files, and thus represent the document's formatting.  Sending plain
ascii files is ofcourse another option, but it's really a last resort,
IMHO.
