Exhibitions in Chicago

Just opened last night at Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper
Arts, [218 South Wabash, 7th floor, Chicago, Il 60604, Tel. 312-431-8612]
two shows not to be missed:
Past, Present, Post: The Mail Art Show. .....(per the exhibit notice) "This
exhibit is an idiosyncratic free fall through the lavish, democratic and
obscure world of Correspondence Art: Mail Art, Artist's Stamps, and
Assembling Magazines.....
a few of the amusing tidbits we have borrowed from their recipients to
display for you." One is also invited to participate by altering the
announcement postcard and return it during the show. The staggering amount
of material is very well displayed and well worth a visit.
Also in the hall gallery:
"Books, cards, folders, awards, booklets & ephemera produced during the past
fifteen years at THE TURTLE PRESS of Bruce Beck" (who believes slower is
better than faster and that letterpress is the best of all!). This exhibit of
letterpress printing is an incredibly beautiful collection of work by one of
America's great graphic designers/printers and typographic experts.
The exhibit will be open March 7 - May 9, 1997, Monday through Friday, 10 - 5
and Saturdays 10 - 1.....Worth the visit of you Midwesterners or Chicago
passers-through.
