Re: Bananas

David Lanning wrote a lot of interesting stuff about growing bananas,
and then asked: *am I correct in assuming that banana paper is only used as
a covering medium and not for writing on. I ask this, because the dry
fibres of the banana plant are quite a dark brown and I cannot see how they
would be suitable for writing on - unless of course they have been bleached
during their manufacture?*

David, I have used "banana" paper for covering books and for end sheets, but
I have also written on it with white gouache, and with silver metallic
marker. It is often a bit rough to write on, but with gouache and a brush
it has a very nice effect.
