A new collective of artists has formed a workshop studio at the Little Five
Points Community Center. Classes are offered through the Fall: bookbinding,
papermaking, letterpress and relief printing, boxmaking, polaroid transfer
photography, and opportunities for collaborative projects.

Collaborative Artists' Book Project:
Participants will explore all of the variables of book production. Some
areas of investigation will include creative writing, page imposition,
letterpress printing, typography, relief imaging, papermaking, and
bookbinding. The class will work together as a group to create and choose
text, artwork, and a binding structure for the final project, resulting in
the production of one edition of books.
Studio members and visiting artists will direct this project
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00pm-10:00pm
October 14-December 4: $285.00

Polaroid Transfer Photography:
This process explores the technique of reproducing your existing slides or
using newly-created Polaroid images in an experimental way. Many methods
will be discussed and each participant should bring at least 5 slides from
which
to choose. Additionally, everyone must purchase 1 or 2 packages of Polaroid
669 film for the class. Almost any kind of paper or cloth will receive
these photographic images, so feel free to bring some of your own samples
from home. Colored pencils or watercolor paints can also be used to
manipulate the final images. Bring a lunch.
Berwyn Hung, instructor
Saturday, October 18, 10:00am-4:00pm: $65.00

Bookbinding and Japanese Papermaking:
This workshop is a full day of learning 4-5 non-adhesive binding
structures, as well as two different types of Eastern papermaking
approaches. Find out what it means to make paper from Kozo fibers and also
dried Japanese irises. The workshop is team-taught and covers quite a bit
of information in a short six-hour session. Dress very casually;
papermaking is a water sport. Bring a lunch.
Kim Knox Norman and Lisa Hart, instructors
Saturday, October 25, 10:00am-4:00pm: $65.00

Holiday Greeting Cards:
Dispatch holiday merriment with handmade cards combining letterpress
salutations and relief printing. Participants will combine linocut or wood
engraved images with letterpress printing to produce an edition of
personalized holiday greeting cards. This workshop is team-taught and
covers three days of available studio time for successfully finished
projects. Bring a lunch during the weekend.
Stephanie Smith and Jack Sinclair, instructors
Thurs., Oct. 30, 6:00pm-10:00pm

Beginning Letterpress Intensive:
Participants will explore the fundamentals of typesetting and press work in
this workshop designed for those without prior printing experience.
Students will learn the American Point System, the California job case,
composition, lock-up, inking, and maintenance, as well as printing from
photo-engravings, wood engravings, and linoleum blocks. Bring a lunch for
each meeting.
Jack Sinclair, instructor

Traditional Boxmaking:

paper conservation. This hands-on class will have participants constructing
a couple of different boxes for varied purposes. From the clamshell box to
the wrap-around box, each one is beautifully constructed and sturdy enough
for protecting your special family album. Bring a lunch for Saturday.
