Marketing Artists Books

There's an interesting article by Ruth Laxson in a recent issue of _Art Papers_
(v. 21, no 6, Nov/Dec, 1997) p. 34, "How to Market Your Artist's Book."

One thing that she suggests is contacting acquisitions librarians, though she
does acknowledge: "But it is guesswork knowing who actually collects such
work." I would suggest that rather than contacting acquisitions librarians,
that you contact art librarians and rare book curators in university and art
school libraries where material on contemporary art is collected. You can look
in _American Art Directory_ in the section for museums. Libraries are noted in
the left column by an "L". [Or, the West Coast monthly _Artweek_ seems to be
publishing listings of art schools: the Jan 1998 issue covers Midwestern Art
Schools, including university departments, with Western coming in March and
Eastern/Southern coming in August.]

Also, you may wish to contact the professional association of art librarians,
which could sell you mailing lists of its members:

There is also an international directory of art libraries:

One source Laxson doesn't mention is:
