Marsha Brady Calligraphy workshops in Minneapolis

Announcing 1998 Summer Calligraphy Workshops with Marsha Brady

Textura:
Monday-Friday, June 15-19, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Brook Park Fellowship Church, Brooklyn Center, MN

One of the most beautiful of the medieval hands, Textura lends itself to
modification and creative application by today's scribe. The structure, rhythm
and spacing essential to the beauty of this classic letterform will be
emphasized, along with exploring ways of varying the basic forms. Study of how
Twentieth Century scribes have utilized Gothic letterforms in their work is a
integral part of the workshop. Limited to 12 participants. $295.00.

Marsha Brady's expertise in the Textura hand is due in part to her extensive
study with such distinguished Austrian and German scribes as Friedrich
Neugebauer and Kargeorg Hoefer. Along with her husband Larry, she has been
invited twice to serve as guest instructor at the Summer Calligraphy Workshop
in Offenbach, Germany.

Fine Tuning & Independent Study
Monday-Friday, June 22-26, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Brook Park Fellowship Church, Brooklyn Center, MN

This week is designed for the advanced scribe to work on any independent
project(s) with Marsha's guidance. We will also focus attention on perfecting
two different alphabets over two days each with another day reserved for
layout and design techniques. The exact alphabets to be studied will be
determined by consensus of the group who registers. Limited to 12 participants
who are able to work independently. Tuition is $295.00.

One evening during each week (to be determined by the registrants) will be
devoted to a critique by Marsha of any work students choose to bring in. This
work does not need to be related to the class subject. There will be no
activities planned for the other week nights.

Registration begins immediately with first-come, first-served priority. The
registration form must be accompanied by a non-refundable $50.00* deposit
check and a pre-addressed return envelope. Remaining tuition is due May 15.
*Registration deposits will be refunded only to those who cannot be placed in
a class. Anyone canceling her registration will forfeit the deposit.

If you have studied with Marsha Brady before, you know what a great deal you
have learned in a short time. If you have never had the privilege, you will
find that Marsha teaches so much more than just the subject matter at hand.
Her demonstrations and spur-of-the-moment tips are invaluable to even the most
experienced workshop goer.

This is the third in a series of week-long summer workshops that have been
developed to provide intensive, quality instruction locally by
internationally-respected calligraphers who are known for their teaching
ability as well as their calligraphic expertise. Some of these teachers will
be retiring within a few years, so this is an opportunity that may not arise
again. The aim is to allow Twin City calligraphers to study with experts while
maintaining other obligations without the commitment of travel time and
expenses. Affordable hotel and restaurant accommodations are available nearby
for out-of-towners who may be interested. These accommodations are not
included in the tuition fee.

Please call Beth Weiss at 612-536-8453 with any questions. You may also email
me PRIVATELY for more info.
