This is the Second Notice for upcoming events in Southern California:
Saturday 6 June, from 10 - 4 there will be a Book Arts Fair, sponsored by
the Alliance for Contemporary Book Arts and Dawson's Book Shop to be held at
Dawson's, 535 N. Larchmont Blvd., Los angeles, CA 90004. For information,
call Dawson's at (213)469-2186.
The Book Arts Fair will include fine press printers, bookbinders and book
artists representing a cross-section of the Southland's leading book
artists. There will be a bookbinding demonstration by Allwyn O'Mara and a
book signing by Richard-Gabriel Rummonds for his long awaited and just
published book, Printing on the Iron Handpress.
On Friday 5 June at the opening event, there will be a small preview
showing of books and an informal talk by Gloria Stuart, "Performer, Painter,
Printer and Versa Vice." Her long and varied career includes a recent Oscar
nomination for her role in the film, Titanic. The talk will begin at 8 p.m.
Wednesday 10 June at 7:30 p.m., Scott McCarney, Rochester-based book artist
will present a lecture about his one-of-a-kind bookworks, his offset
editions, his magical use of the Mac computer, and sculptural displays and
installations of discarded encyclopedias. That is 10 June at the Armory for
the Arts Community Room, 145 N. Raymond Ave., in Pasadena.
For those in Northern California, Boundless: Liberating the Book Form, guest
curated by Judith A. Hoffberg, will featured dimensional bookworks from the
1970s from West Coast artists. This is a historic exhibition of bookworks
gleaned from the experiments of various West Coast artists, to be held from
8 June - 28 August. The opening will be on 12 June from 6 - 8 p.m. at the
San Francisco Center for the Book, 300 de Haro, San Francisco, CA 94103.
