Kreiger Hall 103, Johns Hopkins University
Pete Jermann is returning to Johns Hopkins University to repeat his
successful workshop. The Preservation Department of the
Milton S. Eisenhower Library at JHU and the Potomac Chapter of the Guild
of BookWorkers are co-sponsoring this event.
This is a two day workshop: Thursday, August 13, 9am-4pm; Friday,
August 14, 9pm-1pm. Enrollment is limited to 6 people. Participants will

include the selection of adhesives, the dynamics of adhesive binding
structures, and quarter-joint binding. Participants will make several
binding models illustrating structural variations.
Participants will need an apron, personal hand tools (if desired),
Lunch is on your own.

Pete Jermann, preservation officer for the Friedsam Library at St.
Bonaventure University, began researching adhesive binding techniques ten
years ago in order to develop efficient rebinding structures for use in a
small in-house library binding and repair unit. He has published a study
on book structures in "New Library Scene" (August, 1994).
Workshops will be held in the Conservation Department, 108 Kreiger
