August-September Lectures in New York City

Dear friends:

The following visits are scheduled for August-September:

1) The Islamic Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: an
introductory survey of Islamic Art, through the Met's collection; special
emphasis on calligraphy and the fine collection of Turkish and Mughal
books.

2) The Burne-Jones show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is not a
likeable show, but for anyone interested in Medievalism, in design, and in
book production it is a very intriguing one. I will be concentrating on
Burne-Jones' complex relationship with William Morris, through the
Kelmscott Chaucer, the Merton Abbey Tapestries, and more profoundly, the
political/aesthetic dynamics of nineteenth-century England.
