Re: "horn book" ancient name

        In the History of the Horn Book, Andrew Tuer mentions "the wooden,
wax-coverd folding tabulae" as forerunners. I couldn't find anything
else in there. Shereen LaPlantz is publishing a magazine calld Tabulae
Ansata. In her brochure, she describes the name as Roman teaching
tablets that later evolved into the horn book. Hope this helps.
