BEADED BINDINGS WORKSHOP



           A SALTWINDS YANKEE BARN WORKSHOP    -  1999

DATES:   WEEKEND  JUNE 19 - 20   9am - 4 pm plus open studio

           MIRIAM (MIMI) SCHAER, Body Book And Wearable Text Artist
Extraordinaire, Woman of THE Book, and Undercover Artist, will spend a
whole
delirious weekend showing those lucky few how to design and execute decorative
beaded spines for their handmade books. This class may also be taken by
those who wish to learn creative beading methods for other use such as
quilting,
embroidery or decorative calligraphy. Free hand beading, beaded loom work and
beaded embroidery may also be used in making book covers as well as for spine
bindings. Each person will complete at least one book form and learn how
to incorporate beading into other structures.

            Mimi is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Art and has attended
and had affiliations with many other schools and Bookarts Centers. She has
served as a teacher, Artist-in-the-schools, guest lecturer/panelist, has been
featured artist and part of group exhibitions too numerous to list- since 1978.
Last year her work was displayed in the Tallinn Print Triennial in Estonia
entitled Reincarnation:Book.   Her work has been written about in
over a dozen periodicals the latest of which is Lower East Decades, Papertrails,
Art on Paper, November/December 1998. Her innovative ever-changing work is
in many prominent collections here and overseas.  Mimi's work is part of
the traveling exhibit, Women of the Book: Jewish Women, Jewish Themes which
will tour until the year 2000. Her list of accomplishments is formidable.

The workshop fee includes continental breakfast and lunch. There are a limited
number of on site rooms available.
