>From January 26 to February 27, 1999, there will be an exhibition of
artist books by the Kaldewey Press in the College of Creative Studies
Gallery at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Based in New York
City and in Poestenkill, New York, the Press was established by Gunnar
Kaldewey to produce books as original art forms in collaboration with
artists, poets, and writers. Mr. Kaldewey will give a slide lecture about
the books that he has made of his own work and in collaboration with other
artists in the UCSB Art Symposium on Tuesday, January 26, from 5:00 to
6:15 pm at the Isla Vista Theater. Admission is free, and the public is
welcome. A reception for the exhibition will immediately follow in the
College of Creative Studies Gallery, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Sponsored by
the Book Arts Program of the College of Creative Studies and the
Department of Art Studio, this show is the opening exhibit of a series of
related exhibitions that will take place at UCSB and around the world.

(Tampa, FL), Arte Dos Graphicos (Bogota, Columbia) and Turkey Press (Isla
Vista, CA)---will exhibit their contemporary artist books over the next
two years in the College of Creative Studies Gallery, under the heading
"The Rocket Four: Making Artist Books Today." The exhibit will also be
seen at a variety of exhibition sites within the United States, Asia,
Europe, and South America. A catalogue that features the work of these
four presses will be available in February 1999. The Art Symposium is
sponsored by the College of Creative Studies and the Department of Art
Studio and generously supported by Susan E. Bower. Gallery hours: 10 am to
