book, manuscripts and related materials priced from a few dollars to
hundreds of thousands. This year’s Fair will also indulge in a little
romance in the special exhibits area where you will be able to peruse

SPECIAL EXHIBITS:
A Book Affair to Remember
To help book lovers get in the mood for Valentine’s Day, the San Francisco
Public Library will be presenting a Valentine’s exhibit featuring romantic
items from their Special Collections. The exhibit will include everything
from antique Valentines and delicate calligraphy collections to gay/lesbian
pulp fiction. You will see "Where to Sin in San Francisco" by Jack Lord
from the SF History Collection and have a little light-hearted fun with the
Wit and Humor Collection. The Library will also have an antique press on
hand for you to make your own one-of-a-kind Valentine. You can even have a
romantic note added in calligraphy for that special loved one.

Bay Area Book Arts
Bookbinders, calligraphers, printers, and conservators will be
demonstrating their arts. Come watch calligraphers create valentines; learn
to make a quick slipcase for your own slim volumes; find out why and how
you should consult a paper conservator; see how 18th century books were
given quick cover decors; watch a printer at work; learn the secrets of
early inks. Meet representatives from Bay Area book arts groups to find out
how you can get involved.
