Re: habitant poetry



Montgomery probably referred to poetry written to reflect the English spoken
by French Canadian farmers,  ["habitants"]
especially the poems of W.H. Drummond [1854-1907] "Leetle Baptiste", "The
Wreck of the Julie Plante", "Johnny Couteau" etc.
Written with much affectionate humour, catching for non-francophones the
lilt of the Quebec patois.
