                    SALTWINDS YANKEE BARN WORKSHOPS  2000
Dear Friends, here is the  upcoming schedule for 2 to 5 day workshops in the
book arts.
The site: a modernized 1802 Yankee Barn in Kingston, MA located between
Boston, Cape Cod & the Islands, and Providence, RI. Plimoth Plantation,
Plymouth Rock and other historic areas plus  whale watches and tours are
easily available.

The atmosphere is one of constructive encouragement and  the teachers are in
most cases nationally known in their field of artistic endeavor.

There is some housing on site please call to reserve a room (781-585-5622).
There are nearby B&B's and motels in Kingston and Plymouth.

NOTE: Early morning continental breakfast and lunch are included in the
course fee. Classes start at 9am and go to about 4pm depending upon the
instructor.

MAY 12-14  Our favorite bookarts teacher and Boston book artist of note,
MARILYN HATCH,  presents POLAROID SLIDE TRANSFERS, THE ART AND THE CRAFT -
What's new in creatively transfering slides through the gel medium of
polaroid film to various surfaces. Other manipulations of slides into art
forms will be explored.
(Marilyn taught her popular weekend workshop PASTE PAPERS here last year.)

MAY 22-26  THE CONCERTINA FOR WONDERFULLY VARIED AND SOPHISTICATED HANDMADE
BOOKS, presented by English bookarts teacher HEATHER HUNTER  whose own
artist's books are in many private collections and University Libraries in
Europe. The
five day workshop is highly structured and presents many provocative
variations suitable for imaginative content and text. Beginners are
welcomed and
skilled artisans will be challenged!                  Materials fee  $20

JUNE 10-11  ILLUSTRATION AND SURFACE EMBELLISHMENT.  Liberate your creativity,
learn new ways of imaging, texturing and surface embellishment for artworks
of all kinds including the coverings and content of the artist's book! Image
transfers, spontaneous painting, printmaking and treatments for metal & wood.
LILLA FORD and TONY VISCO will keep you  at MACH 1 speed in a two day
marathon of fun and exploration you will never forget.         Materials
fee   $20

JUNE 26,27,28,29 GALEN BERRY will once again present his  sought after,
absolutely the greatest MARBLING A TO Z....covering the traditional Thistle,
Birdwing, Swirl, Italian Vein, Ripple, Stone, Moire, Antique and Fantasy Wave
patterns plus use of stencils - on both foolproof papers and cloth. Sign up
ASAP, please!     ALL materials are provided by the instructor.

JUNE 22,23 24,25  A UNIQUE, informative and experimental workshop
DRAGON'S BLOOD AND ASHES, TECHNIQUES OF A MEDIEVAL BOOK ARTIST  presented
by visual language expert PAUL WERNER of NYC who has authored, lectured and
taught througout the United States.  You will learn the hands on methods of
cutting
quills, preparing manuscripts, illumination, gesso panels, inks and dyes,
tempers and binders and much more.  Please sign up early as space is
limited.

JULY 10-13  THE BOOK AS SCULPTURE: CHANGING YOUR CONCEPT OF WHAT A BOOK CAN BE !
Starting with a slide presentation, MICHAEL JACOBS will present a truly
exciting workshop which moves quickly into the design and unique
fabrication of your own free standing sculptural mixed media book
structures  - which may have drawers, be vessel-like, have wire line
drawings, triangular sides - are they books or sculptures? Or, in fact,
BOTH?  Michael is an exceptional internationally known teacher, a top notch
award-winning book artist, an eclectic, artistic  3-D visualist from
Seattle, WA  ....don't miss the chance to come under his spell.

Each course fee includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee. Cancellation
will be honored up to the tenth calendar day prior to the starting day of the
workshop.  After that date a refund, minus the registration fee, is
possible if your space can be filled.  Materials lists will be sent when
registrations
are received.
