Re: BOOK_ARTS-L Digest - 3 Feb 2000 to 4 Feb 2000 (#2000-34)

Responding to the query about bookbinders and such in Italy...

In Florence, just near the Ponte Vecchio, is the shop of the bookbinding
family of Guilio Giannini atPiazza Pitti 37r...filled with Italian handbound
journals, lovely printed papers, handmade paper, stationary, pens, inks and
such. My last visit included a long conversation in the elegant bookbinders'
office with one of the owners. Just ask! There are many shops which deal in
books and beautiful papers, so just walking will bring many treasures. One of
the best known - a marbling establishment - is Il Papiro.

For a central contact address, the headquarters of Les Amis de la Reliure
d'Art - in its Italian counterpart as the Fondazione Querini Stampalia - is
located in Venice. The President of ARA-Italia is Gabriele Giannini who may
be contacted c/o the Fondazione, Castello 4778, I-30122 Venice. Tel (0039)
041-522-52-35.

You might also check the website for Art & Metiers du Livre for exhibitions,
etc. <<www.aml-editions.fr>>

Have a delightful trip - and do report on what you find!
