Re: Snuff

I agree with what Vicky Wen said, as well as many of the other statements.
I loved the line "I tihnk it's state's evidence."

Yes, it points to core beliefs, and yes, it is evidence of a murder (if it
is truly a genuine snuff film, as many are faked, and baby, those ain't art
either...sensationalistic yes, art, please...is your vision that weak?).
But this question points to the many questions as well...such as...

Is it art? My response is, is this society so screwed up that that would be
even a viable question? That comment is not directed to the asker of the
question, but to anyone....where's the line?

If a snuff film, then what of a "performance" of a killing...right out
there in the street, where someone knifes a person, pushed a person onto a
subway platform, shoots a person...Karen Findley style, maybe pouring some
yams all over the place...and then tells the cops....'it's my art to take
another's life. Hey, I am making a statement.'

Yeah, you are, and that statement is, you're a thoughtless murderer. You
belong in jail, away from people who want to, and do, treat each other the
way people are supposed to treat each other (well, hopefully).

Consider this, would it be art if it was your daughter being snuffed....
your son being molested...
your wife being butchered...
your best friend being gang-banged...
...if it were you?

Some things are just wrong...my art is stronger than to have to lose itself
in criminal activity.

That's not shocking, or dark, or ahead of its time, it's just stupid.

I also agree that it is not a question that belongs on a book arts list,
but I had to respond.
