Listening to this discussion, I would like to recommend a trained paper
conservator. There is a reason why they are expensive: they are trained and
have experience. If you are curious, and your piece is not irreplaceable, by
all means experiment, but if it is at all important to you, go to a doctor
with a degree on the wall. Conservators often get bad conservation to fix,
and that is usually much harder to repair than the original problem.
