sad news

Dear Friends,
This is to share with you sad news of the sudden passing of Suellen Glashausser,
an innovative maker of artists'books, an outstanding teacher, a vibrant,
caring, and wonderfully supportive artist and friend. If any of those who
knew her want to find out about arrangements and services to be held this
Friday and Saturday you can call the Jackie Cuan Funeral Home in Hylan Park,
NJ (732) 545-0606. Trained in classical bookbinding in Paris-Suellen
branched off into making all sorts of books- from found materials-post
cards, photocopies, cloth metal, wood, screening and netting-which she
transformed-often with much stitching and folding-in ways that provoked both
a sense of fun and wonder-light-heartedness and great care. She recently
was the recipient of a grant to make an artists book at the Center for
Innovative Printmaking at Rutgers, had a one-woman Museum show of her books
this year as well as a show of her paintings in NYC, and was about to leave
for seven months in Paris-a city she knew very well. She currently has two
books in the book show at Henry Streets' Abrons Art gallery in New York
City. While her husband is on seven month sabbatical in Paris, I hope to
begin looking around for a venue for a Memorial Exhibition of her work-which
is a rich feast-to take place sometime after his return. If any of you have
suggestions for a venue for the Memorial Exhibition, you can contact me
off-line. The field of Book Arts was well served by this outstanding artist.
She will be greatly missed.
