OPENING RECEPTION: TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 5-8-PM

Hillwood Art Museum presents the work of over thirty contemporary book
artists whose vision collectively seeks to broaden our perception of what
defines a book. Included are objects that depart from the traditional
approach to creating a book, by exploring the use of unconventional
materials such as steel, video, and glass.

Tuesday, February 6, 7- 8 pm
In the Museum
Ms. Judith Hoffberg, scholar and editor of Umbrella magazine, will explore
the extraordinary innovations approached by contemporary book artists. Her
lecture will also investigate early innovations in hand-made books,
culminating with works in the current exhibition.

PERFORMANCE
Tuesday, February 13, 7- 8 pm
In the Museum
Ms. Susan Share, book and performance artist, combines these two mediums
into the dance piece, Box for a Brighter Side. The artist uses book-objects
as masks, puppets, costumes and props in providing an alternative to the
traditional role of the book.

Tuesday, March 6, 7- 8 pm
In the Museum
Mr. Richard Minsky, Artist, Founder, The Center for Book Arts That's not a
Book! It's not Art! It's not Craft ! The artist will lecture on the
evolution of his work of over thirty years. The presentation will be
highlighted with materials projected directly from the Internet, including
web-based book art exhibits, listserv discussions of book arts and other
on-line resources.
