Dena,
You could try graduating the width of the hinge boards incrementally so
that your first few have 1.5" to 1.75" hinge boards to the left and the
rest get a little wider etc - it all depends on the thickness of the mat
board you are using - but you need to create space for the pages toward the
bottom to have enough distance to clear the boards on top.  By staggering
the width of the hinge board you should not have to change the hinge space
between the boards.
