The K118 Structure: A Slide Lecture

Terry Buckley returns to the Center for Book Arts on with a new lecture and slide
presentation. In this special event, Mr. Buckley will discuss a medieval binding
technique that is of particular interest today since it adapts well to modern binding
requirements. The evening will begin with a demonstration of the structure, in which Mr.
Buckley will take us on a step-by-step journey through its construction, from sewing to
covering. Following an examination of the K118 's formal details, and an assessment of the
structure's strong and weak points, Mr. Buckley will finish the evening with a slide show
of his own recent work.

Terry Buckley started binding books as an apprentice at W.T. Morrells, in London, in 1961.
Today, he manages his own workshop in Cambridge, specializing in conservation, restoration
and presentation volumes. He is also Senior Lecturer in bookbinding at the London College
of Printing, a position he has held for 18 years.

Lecture is FREE for CBA members; all others are requested to make a $5.00 donation.
