ARTISTS BOOK WORKSHOPS INCLUDE:

SUSAN E. KING, JULY 2-6, "DEVELOPING IDEAS FOR ARTISTS BOOKS"
VSW is pleased to offer this special workshop by Susan King, nationally
known book artist, writer and printer from L.A.  Focusing on writing
exercises and brainstorming techniques, participants will develop 3-5
mock-ups by the end of the week.

JOAN LYONS, JULY 16-20, "ARTISTS BOOKS: NARRATIVE, TEXT & IMAGE"
Founding coordinator of VSW Press, Joan's workshop is based on personal
stories. Participants will work on one week-long book project.

SCOTT McCARNEY, JULY 24-28,"STRUCTURES FOR VISUAL BOOKS"
Scott's books are known for their innovative integration of structure
andt content. This workshop will introduce basic techniques, materials
and many variations of artists' bookbindings.

DOUGLAS HOLLELEY, JULY 30-AUGUST 3, "FROM PRINT TO BOOK VIA DESKTOP
PUBLISHING"
The author of "Digital Book Design and Publishing (2001)," Douglas will
present digital bookmaking from Quark through Photoshop to Bookbinding.

Additional offerings of interest to book artists include  digital
workshops in Desktop Publishing, Photoshop, Digital Multimedia and Web
Page Design.

A full schedule of workshops includes PHOTOGRAPHY, ARTISTS BOOKMAKING,
DIGITAL IMAGING, DIGITAL MULTIMEDIA, WEB PAGE DESIGN;  DIGITAL VIDEO;
FILM AND VIDEO PRODUCTION, VIDEO HISTORY and PERFORMANCE ART. For six
weeks, beginning June 25th, a visiting faculty of nationally-known
artists leads small intensive classes limited to 8?12 participants.
Classes are offered for all levels. Graduate or undergraduate college
credit is available through SUNY College at Brockport.  Wednesday night
faculty lectures are free and open to the public.
The Visual Studies Workshop is an internationally recognized center for
Photography, Visual Books, Film/Video and Digital Media. Facilities
available to Summer Institute participants include black and white,
color, and special process darkrooms; offset production printing
facilities; Macintosh computer labs; small format video production and
post-production, computer imaging and computer audio systems; the VSW
Research Center, with its extensive collections, library, and
Independent Press Archive; VSW exhibition galleries and bookstore.
