Because it made for a great example of the point being made. Some people are
just too easily intimidated when everyone doesn't agree on a point and the
discussion isn't a tea party.  The problem is; covering up (redirecting)
contentious issues (dead horses) rarely makes them go completely away.

I think that the real problem is that many people are too easily intimidated
by a good argument. Or, they don't recognise that such a thing as a good
argument even exists.

Instead, it seems that those not able to engage in "Intellectual sport"
instead try to stop others from playing the game ;-)
