"REEFS, WRECKS AND RASCALS: THE LEGACY OF THE SPANISH MAIN"
September 15, 2001 - January 6, 2002

The exhibition features 61 books, manuscripts and facsimiles from the colle=
ctions of the Jay I. Kislak Foundation of Miami Lakes, Florida. Developed i=
n cooperation with the Bienes Center, the exhibit offers a look at historic=
 accounts of New World piracy in the 16th and 17th centuries. The exhibit i=
tems chronicle the colorful adventures of famous pirates and buccaneers who=
 roamed the Caribbean Sea and American coastline, attacking and plundering =
Spanish ships carrying treasures from the Americas back to Europe.=20

Established in 1984, the Jay I. Kislak Foundation is a private nonprofit in=
stitution created to foster greater understanding of the cultures and histo=
ry of the Americas, with particular emphasis on Florida, the Caribbean and =
Mesoamerica. For more information on the collections and activities of the =
