This Tuesday at 6.45 p.m., Rob Shepherd will be giving another in the =
popular series of talks arranged by the Friends of St Bride Printing =
Library.

Rob Shepherd's talk, on The history of Sangorski and Sutcliffe =
Bookbinders, tells the fascinating story of how Francis Sangorski and =
George Sutcliffe took the bold step of setting up a bookbinding business =
together one hundred years ago. The company archives tell a story of =
dedication, endurance and creative spirit that has made Sangorksi and =
Sutcliffe one of the greatest names in the history of craftsmanship and =
of craft bookbinding. Rob Shepherd's talk will focus on the early years =
of the company, up to the tragic death of Francis Sangorski in 1912. The =
talk will be accompanied by illustrations from the extensive Sangorski =
and Sutcliffe archive and by slides of the exquisite jewelled bindings =
the firm produced at the time.

This talk is accompanied by the exhibition Sangorski and Sutcliffe =
Bookbinders, presented by Shepherds Bookbinders, incorporating Sangorski =
& Sutcliffe and Zaehnsdorf. The exhibition (open Monday-Friday, =
10.30am-5.00pm. Admission free) closes at the end of this week. Tuesday =
evening will be an excellent opportunity to catch it before it closes, =
and to hear about these stunning bindings, and we very much hope you =
will be able to join us.

A short report of the talk will be posted as a link from =
http://www.stbride.org/calendar.htm, where you can also read reports on =
some recent talks.
