Mr. Ober. I'd like to report that
at Carnegie Mellon U. we have
resumed providing letterpress
instruction and limited edition
project work. This happened
about seven years ago, in
the Design School.
        At CMU there has been
a past history of press work,
beginning with Porter Garnett's
Lab Press, starting in 1923.
In, about 1963, Jack Stauffacher's
New Lab Press. Then, in the mid
1980s, the reestablishment of the
New Lab Press, by Edward Fisher.
And in 1995 we began again with
the first lab workshop. The
work continues which is now a
mix of teaching basic binding
structures, handset type with
press work, plus computer
scanning through photomechanical
reproduction to relief plate-
making, and other photographic
processes.

        If your address is
current I will send you some
broadsides, plus other production
from our past lab workshops.

Joseph Dicey, School of Design
