Spring and Summer Workshops  Involving ( you guessed it) Paper and Books

for workshops at Saltwinds Yankee Barn in Kingston,MA .

  This year's schedule includes:

April 6-7  It's that wonderful Marilyn Hatch time again!  Make INNOVATIVE
FOLDING BOOKS and also create an edition to  exchange with fellow students
under the  direction of one of our  "most" popular teachers.

April 20-21  SURFACE EMBELLISHMENT !  A whole weekend of creative
exploration  with Lilla Ford and Daria Herlihy learning to embellish
various  paper and other plain surfaces with colorful design and image to
enhance book covers, pages  and other forms of artwork.

May 18-19   WEARABLE BOOKS! Internationally known Wearable Books artist
Mimi Schaer of New York City returns to Yankee Barn to show you how to
create your own personal, wearable book totem - structure, embellishments,
attachments, hinges and all.

May 20-23  BEGINNER'S CALLIGRAPHY with  Paul Werner of New York City,
author of  online WOID and well known authority on medieval (Dragon's Blood
and Ashes) history, art and methodology.   You will learn to enhance all
your artwork with the  simple  alphabetical strokes of a (goose feather ?)
pen.  Don't miss this one!

June 17-20  HANDMADE PAPER EXTRAVAGANZA USING COLORS THAT (Z)ING !  With
Daria Herlihy and Lilla Ford. You will use highly pigmented pulps as paint
to create colorful designs and paintings for bookworks and  collages.  3-D
paper
forms will also be introduced.

July 8-11  PAPER ENGINEERING  FOR HANDMADE BOOKS with Mary
McCarthy, author of "Making Books By Hand", and well known Boston book artist.
Learn the exquisite craft of making dimensional, movable, magical paper
structures through the simple mechanics of folding, scoring and hinging !

July 22-25  LEARNING "BOMBORI" - THE ART OF  JAPANESE LANTERN MAKING with
Anthony Ulinski, craftsman from North Carolina.   You will create the
support systems for applying the beautiful washi papers, learn how to make
stable
stands and also how to build electrical wiring systems for at least two
lanterns.

PLEASE NOTE:  Morning coffe and tea and a hearty lunch are included in the
registration fee.  Workshops start at 9 am til  about  3:30 pm (unless
otherwise notfied) . Please register early as space is limited.
