My favorite is a tool you can get at most hardware stores for 50 cents. It is
a square piece of plastic about 4" on a side with differently spaced teeth on
each edge. It's intended use is to spread tile adhesive, but it works
wonderfully for making marks, either for paste paper or for texture in paint.
