For anyone in or near Brisbane, Australia, the Queensland Bookbinders' Guild
are holding an exhibition of 25 year's work at the State Library until 31st
May. Details follow ...

"QUEENSLAND BOUND"

A fascinating exhibition showcasing new books and bindings created over the
last 25 years along with restorations of books from previous centuries and
the tools and materials used. Presented by The Queensland Bookbinders' Guild
in association with the State Library of Queensland.

6th - 31st May, 2002
At the State Library of Queensland,
Peel & Stanley Streets, South Brisbane, 4101
Monday to Thursday, 10 am to 8 pm
Friday to Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm
Free Admission

On display will be around 120 books created by past and present members of
the Queensland Bookbinders' Guild. All books have been bound by hand using
techniques employed by craft binders over many centuries.

The wide range of books and bindings - from traditional leather bindings to
designer bindings and artists' books - demonstrates the continuing evolution
of the craft.

Some use styles of the past, whilst others show that, by using proven
techniques, bindings can reflect exciting new ideas and designs. The books
range from the simple and functional to the elaborate and decorative.
