[BKARTS] Betty Storz honored

Betty Storz, a regular contributor to this listserv, is being recognized by
the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, CA, in a show through the month of
May, "Betty Storz and Friends: The Art of the Book." Known for her
meticulous restoration of heirloom books and special bindings for new
works, Betty will show both original book binding in traditional forms and
book restorations.

Among Betty's friends are the son and daughter-in-law of the late Leah
Wollenberg, who have agreed to lend rarely seen Wollenberg books from the
family collection. A founding member of the Hand Bookbinders of
California, Wollenberg worked in San Francisco from the 1930s to the late
1980s. She was an active member of the Book Club of California, which
sponsored the printing and hand binding of books by fine book printers such
as the Grabhorn Press, the Allen Press, Adrian Wilson, and others. Most of
these hand-bound books are encased in boxes made by her husband, Harold A.
Wollenberg, Sr.

Thirteen other Mendocino and Humboldt County book artists will also
participate, including several members of the North Redwoods Book Arts Guild.

Mendocino Art Center is at 45200 Little Lake Street in Mendocino, CA. Hours
are 10-5 daily. The opening reception for "Betty Storz and Friends: The Art
of the Book" will be May 10, 5-8 pm. The show runs from May 8 to May 31.
