James Lamar Weygand

The man known worldwide as The Indiana Kid -- James Lamar Weygand (APA 255) died July 13 at the age of 83. He was a lifetime resident of the Nappanee, Indiana area.

He was internationally known for operating what he called a "personal"
press -- personally performing all the tasks necessary to produce a book
writing it, setting the type by hand or Linotype, printing it letterpress,
and binding it.

Weygand published 36 full-size and 24 miniature books, the first coming off
his ancient press in 1944. Most of them deal with the book arts printing,
papermaking or bookbinding or with Indiana history. His travel
experiences provided text for most of the rest.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (852 E. Marion St., Nappanee); a
stepdaughter, Annie Parker, Dorcaster, England; and a stepson, Charles
William Gordon Bell, London, England.

I am very sorry to hear this. A few years ago, he gave me permission to digitize his printer's devices books, a three volume set. The first is done and the other two are in process.
