Yes.  The posts are made for the ease of putting in new pages AND removing pages. I you need to remove one sheet from the middle without tearing it and they are as tight as you want them it would be quite a struggle. Especially since they are usually loaded with pictures or other attachments which tend to make the sheets flex as they are removed.
That is why they are normally punched or drilled with 1/4 inch holes.
