[BKARTS] An Open Book Art Exhibit- Cleveland OH

An Open Book Art Exhibit is now open at Cuyahoga Cummunity College
-Western Campus- in Cleveland Ohio. The show will be up until April
9, 2004. 65 artists and over 90 books are on display. There will be a
reception and informal workshop on Monday, March 29 from 6:00- 8:30
pm. One of the local artists who is in the show, Val Van Sice, will
lead the group in making a few small book structures. This workshop
will definately be geared toward the beginner- but should be fun for
all who attend. No registration is needed.

The premise of the exhibit is that the books can be seen in their
entirety without being touched. For the most part this is true and it
was a challenge to install the books so that this would work. A few
books- because of their small size were placed in glass cases. If
there was text or images on the back of a page, it would be hard to
see. But for 99% of the books the viewer can see the whole book.
There are a wide variety of structures and media used. The quality of
work is extraordinary. The show is beautiful!

In the next few weeks we should be able to get some images up on our
website, so keep checking the following

We are also in the process of creating a CD of the exhibit ( but it
may take a few weeks). We are not sure of the cost of this project
yet. Anyone interested in purchasing a CD may email me off list. We
will announce, on the list, the cost of the CD and purchasing and
mailing details as soon as they are known.
