The Laced Case
March 27-28, 2004
In this weekend workshop, you will learn the advantages of lacing on the
three-piece case that you normally just glue to the text block. The spine will be
rounded but not backed for perfect fit. The case will be covered in Tyvek with
a Japanese paper collage as well.

Frederic W. Goudy Workshop
Typesetting Gutenberg's 42-Line Bible
Saturday, April 24, 2004
1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Experience first-hand the magic of recreating a page of Gutenberg's 42-line
Bible with metal type from the Dale Guild Typefoundry. We will first identify
the abbreviations in the Latin text, assign identifiers and typeset from a page
that is in the collection at Denison Library. More questions will arise than
answers provided. Intriguing.
Please note that the Frederic W. Goudy Lecture will be given that evening at
7:30 by Dr. Eric White: The Fifteenth-Century Geometry of Guternberg's 42-Line
Bible. Humanities Auditorium at Scripps College.

Hiromi Paper International
Japanese Paste Primer: Zin Shofu
June 6, 2004
1:00-4:00 p.m.
In this workship, you will learn how to make a smooth Zin Shofu paste,
perfect for Japanese papers as it is so thin and tacky. We will use the paste with
wide Japanese paste brushes to attach Japanese papers collage-style to a
three-piece case covered in Tyvek for a simple writing journal. You will sew through
the spine to attach the signatures.
