Diane,

You are right on the mark about publisher's bindings. They never were very
good, but, now they border on criminal. We have gotten books in to repair (art
books particularly) that the customer had opened once, and the pages are
falling out.  It's too bad that publishers don't still sell books "in boards" like
the used to, and let the reader have them bound however they like.
