Just went and looked at mine.  It is a metal plate that slides on a rod and
has kind of a clip as part of the metal plate.  You squeeze the clip to
allow the plate to slide.  I have also seen them with a wooden piece that
does the sliding.Mine are from old library card files.  The rod is embedded
in the wood drawer so I can't remove it easily.  Suppose I could hacksaw it
out, it would be long enough for you to fit to your box.
Look in antique stores, junk shops, libraries that are getting rid of card
files (most are computerized now)
