Rory Golden is not leaving the Center, but is changing his title to Program
Director, and will focus on curriculum development, poetry projects, artist
residencies, special events, etc.

The Center for Book Arts seeks an energetic and highly organized Executive
Director to bring the Center to the next level of excellence. The Executive
Director will work as part of a small, dedicated team devoted to the
Center?s growth and the fulfillment of its mission. This is a hands-on
position in an established and growing arts organization with many thriving

Work Hours: Full-time; 10am ? 6pm, M ? F; some evenings and weekends
Starting Date: September 2004
Reports to: Reports to the Center?s Board of Directors
Supervises: a part-time Program Director, a Bookkeeper and other contract
employees, as well as volunteers and interns. The Executive Director works
in concert with a full-time Program Coordinator on the Center?s membership
Salary & Benefits: $55,000 Annual Salary. Benefits package includes health
insurance, dental coverage, vacation time and professional development
Responsible for overall management of the Center for Book Arts, including
financial management, fundraising and development and the enhancement of
the Center?s educational and artistic programs and physical facilities in
service of the Center?s Mission.
Budgetary planning and implementation.
In concert with the board, develop an annual operating budget, monitor
ongoing budget progress and provide monthly reports to the Board of
Manage the Annual EOY Fundraising Campaign
Work to strengthen and sustain board participation
Collaborate with the board to develop new funding sources, and sustain
Provide reports at scheduled board meetings
Plan and implement direct mail initiatives
Manage all gifts received weekly; produce receipts and acknowledgements
Research potential foundation, corporate, and individual donors
Coordinate and write proposals for individual, government, corporate and
foundation grants for operating, project and endowment support
Organize benefits, events, earned income projects and other fundraising
Maintain FileMaker Pro donor database and development records
Plan and implement 30th Anniversary fundraising efforts
Coordinate Publicity and Marketing efforts with Program Director
Public Relations and Publicity.
Enhance and grow the Center?s Membership Program with a specific emphasis
on Individual and Corporate Membership.
Target new member prospects and conduct research on increasing membership.
Work with the Program Coordinator on creating new member programs
Other duties include:
Manage Part-time and Contract Employees, Volunteers, Workstudy, and Interns
in implementation of CBA Educational and Artistic Programs and the physical
Basic Administrative Duties (answering the phone and email, greeting

Master?s Degree preferred, with 3 ? 5 years fundraising/development
experience. Experience in a non-profit arts organization a plus. Ability to
handle and prioritize multiple tasks, with attention to detail. Strong
organizational and writing skills; familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel,
QuickBooks Pro, Filemaker Pro and other software. Experience with budget
creation and monitoring, financial report design and management. Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills required, knowledge of the book arts
field a plus but not required.

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR BOOK ARTS
The Center for Book Arts is dedicated to the preservation of the
traditional crafts of bookmaking, as well as encouraging contemporary
interpretations of the book as an art object. Founded in 1974, it was the
first not-for-profit organization of its kind in the nation. The Center
organizes exhibitions related to the art of the book and offers an
extensive selection of educational courses, workshops and seminars in
traditional and contemporary bookbinding, letterpress printing, fine press
publishing, and other associated arts. The Center for Book Arts is
