Acrylics are not plastics as we know them.  Artificial aging has taken them
to well over 100 years with some but minor changes. They get somewhat brittle
and flake out of the fabric they are in/on. They are only superior to starch as
a filler for bookcloth because the are relatively water resistant and the
critters have no appetite for them.  With a 500 yard order (per item), ICG will
make any bookcloth your heart desires. But who needs 500 yards of any one
material.

There is no problem with filling cloth with starch if done properly.
