Re: [BKARTS] Dead-Media bogeyman + CD Longevity

The longevity of CDs has been addressed on a number of Web sites - I
was specifically interested in the best type for storing and passing on
family photographs.

Some  recent Web pages are;
http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/products/storage/pcd/tech
Info/permanence3.jhtml?id=0.1.18.18.13.6.6&lc=en

http://www.beauphoto.com/frames/digital/news/cdr.html

http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_dye.shtml

This is just a sample from a Google search with 50 sites per page
selected!

The best CDs on present knowledge appear to be gold film CDs,
although the dyes have an impact and obviously the method of
storage. I bought some Kodak Digital Science CD-R last year and
recently found in PC World here in the UK some Packard Bell CD-R
Gold CDs, these were £7.50 for 10.
