[BKARTS] Three arrested for selling rare manuscript

Three arrested for selling rare manuscript:

[India News] New Delhi, Sep 17 : Three men charged with trying to sell a
stolen antique Tibetan manuscript have been arrested by the Central Bureau
of Investigation in West Bengal, officials said here Thursday.

The agency arrested Chedi Prasad Mondal, Sreekant Prasad Singh and S. Lama
who were trying to sell the manuscript, reportedly stolen from a Buddhist
monastery at Kalimpong in West Bengal some months ago, for Rs.3 crore (Rs.30
million).

The trio are alleged to be members of a Bhagalpur-based gang involved in
selling antique items, CBI officials said.

The accused were arrested in Kalimpong Thursday and produced in a local
court, which remanded them in CBI's custody.

The CBI spokesman said: "The manuscript is written on Tibetan black polished
paper and was originally written in Sanskrit but subsequently translated
into Tibetan by Thumi Sambhota."

The manuscript weighs 42 kg and has 305 pages and has been certified as an
antique of great value.

The gang offered the manuscript containing transcendental wisdom taught by
Lord Buddha to several people.

The trio had links with several gangs that are active in West Bengal, Bihar,
Jharkhand and other parts of the country, CBI officials said.

A senior official said: "During our investigation of the theft of the Noble
Prize medallion and other items stolen from the Rabindra Museum in
Santiniketan, CBI teams kept antiques located in different parts of the
country under the scanner and that's how we detected this trio."
